NBA stat leaders 2022-23: Luka Doncic and Domantas Sabonis top major categories

With the halfway mark of the NBA season behind us, fans have set their sights on the trade deadline, as well as the upcoming All-Star game. In the meantime, we've continued to witness spectacular performances and record-breaking games from the league's best teams and players.

Let's take a look at the league's stat leaders in the five major categories after another awesome week of NBA basketball.

NBA Scoring Leader: Luka Doncic (33.7 points per game)

This week saw Luka Doncic play in just two of the Dallas Mavericks' three games as the result of ankle soreness. Despite that, Doncic managed to remain the league leader in scoring for yet another week, hanging on to his lead over Joel Embiid.

Just behind Doncic's 33.7 points per game sits Embiid, with 33.6 points per game. Depending on who scores the basketball better over the next week, we could be looking at a new league leader in scoring.

NBA Rebounding Leader: Domantas Sabonis (12.6 rebounds per game)

Domantas Sabonis (Los Angeles Lakers v Sacramento Kings)

It was another big week for Domantas Sabonis and the Sacramento Kings as they continued their six-game winning streak. Although Sabonis missed one of the team's three games this week, he managed to hold on to his lead as the league leader in rebounding.

Thanks to an 18-rebound game against the Spurs, and a 13-rebound game against the OKC Thunder, Sabonis remains ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

NBA Assists Leader: Tyrese Haliburton (10.2 assists per game)

Despite Tyrese Haliburton not playing in a single game last week, he has managed to hold on to his spot as the league leader in assists per game. Prior to going down with an injury, Haliburton was tearing it up. So much so that now, even with five straight missed games, he still sits ahead of Nikola Jokic in second place.

With the Joker continuing his MVP-caliber year, it will be interesting to see if he can improve on his 9.9 assists per game average and overtake Haliburton.

NBA Blocks Leader: Nic Claxton (2.7 blocks per game)

Nic Claxton (Milwaukee Bucks v Brooklyn Nets)

Nic Claxton has, once again, prevailed as the weekly leader in blocks per game. As he and the Brooklyn Nets continue to fight without Kevin Durant, his defensive dominance has been fun to watch. This week, Claxton recorded four blocks in three separate games, while recording three blocks in the team's fourth game of the week.

With his dominance, he remains ahead of Brook Lopez, who sits in second place with 2.5 blocks per game.

NBA Steals Leader: O.G. Anunoby (2.1 steals per game)

O.G. Anunoby (Toronto Raptors v New York Knicks)

Although the Toronto Raptors have continued to struggle, it hasn't been because of O.G. Anunoby's play on the defensive end of the floor. This week saw Anuoby remain the league leader in steals thanks to a big performance against the NY Knicks.

With Jimmy Butler nipping at his heels in second place with 2.0 steals per game, it will be interesting to see where things land next week.
