NBA Twitter was on form as Ben Simmons returned to Philly and lost to undermanned Philadelphia 76ers – “He’s a joke”, “Nets are pathetic”

It was the first time in a while since Ben Simmons last played at the Wells Fargo Center. The last time he suited up for a game there was when he was still with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Now a member of the Brooklyn Nets, Simmons was ready to do battle against his old team. Unfortunately, the Nets lost to the Sixers 115-106 in a humiliating loss. Philly had none of their stars, while Brooklyn had all three.

NBA fans on Twitter are now flooding tweets about how much of a failure Ben Simmons is. They're even calling out the Nets for losing to a Sixers team without Joel Embiid or James Harden. In fact, the trio of Tobias Harris, De'Anthony Melton, and Paul Reed outscored the Nets' big three with a combined score of 65 points versus the Brooklyn trio's 54 points.

Ben Simmons' underwhelming return to Philadelphia

Tuesday night's NBA action marks the first game Ben Simmons has ever played against his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

Typically, star players who switch teams and face their old team would naturally perform at their best to prove that they're doing better. Just like how LeBron James scored 38 points against the Cavaliers in 2010, or Shaq's 24 points against the Lakers in 2004.

Ben Simmons couldn't quite emulate them and lost the game in the process.

Simmons still managed to finish the game with a double-double, however, his performance was still underwhelming. He had 11 points and 11 assists in 32 minutes of play. Given how he scored 22 points against the Memphis Grizzlies the game prior, fans were expecting Simmons to follow up on his performance.

The Aussie isn't known for being a scorer, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have that capability.

Before the Brooklyn Nets faced the Grizzlies on November 20, they went against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Nets star recorded another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. His scoring output was his usual, and it was efficient too. He was perfect from the field that night, shooting 6-of-6.

Just as things were starting to look better for Simmons since his return, he managed to slip up once again. This season he is only averaging 8.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. If Simmons can find a way to boost his scoring numbers, the Nets might have a better chance of climbing the ladder.
