"On the heels of the Draymond punch" - Colin Cowherd praises Golden State Warriors' storied season

The Golden State Warriors currently sit in fifth place in the Western Conference thanks to a gritty come-from-behind victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night. Colin Cowherd recently praised the Warriors for their play despite a tumultuous season. Speaking on The Herd, the sports media personality stated:

"The Warriors, if they won this year, with an aging Steph [Curry], on the heels of the Draymond [Green] punch to Jordan Poole, which inflamed the locker room, with Klay [Thompson] having a bizarrely good resurgence to his career when we thought the best days were over, with Andrew Wiggins missing 40-plus games, being the worst road team to ever make the playoffs, that's a 30 for 30.

"That's a movie script. That's great for sports. You could call it from the punch to the playoffs. What the Warriors have done this year is remarkable. It's full of different storylines and drama and conflict... They weren't rooting for that stuff, but they support their guys, culture matters, have your guys back, don't worry about the salary cap. If you've got to pay a little more, pay a little more to keep the band together."

The Warriors have been able to build their dynasty from within as their roster is filled with homegrown talent. They have also displayed that they are willing to exceed the luxury tax in order to maintain their winning ways.

Can the Golden State Warriors win their fifth championship in nine years?

The Golden State Warriors were able to win their fourth title in 2021-2022. While Golden State entered 2022-2023 as the favorites to repeat, things have hardly gone according to plan. In addition to the off-the-court drama, the Warriors have struggled tremendously on the road.

Golden State is 33-8 at home, however, they are just 9-30 on the road. If the Warriors want to win their fifth title, they will need to overcome their road woes. While the franchise has the championship pedigree, it is difficult to flip a switch come playoff time.

Golden State will not finish as a top-four seed in the Western Conference, so they will likely need to win at least one road game in each series to win the championship. While it is impossible to count the Warriors out, they face an uphill battle as postseason competition is much tougher and they have only won nine road games all season as things stand.
