The Phoenix Suns tipped off their preseason with a showdown against their Pacific Division rivals, the LA Lakers, on Sunday. This marked the first appearance of the Suns' big three — Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal — since their disappointing playoff exit last season. For the Lakers, it was their second preseason game.

Both teams featured two players who represented Team USA at the Paris Olympics, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis playing for the Lakers after sitting out their first preseason matchup against the Timberwolves, and Durant and Booker suiting up for the Suns.

Now back facing each other as opponents in the NBA preseason, the Suns stunned the Lakers with a come-from-behind 118-114 win. Below are the stats and box scores from the game.

Phoenix Suns vs. LA Lakers: Game Summary

The Lakers set the tone early as Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves combined for an alley-oop dunk within the first minute. Davis dominated the paint with rebounds and an additional 3-pointer, while Reaves added a driving floater, helping LA jump to a 7-0 lead.

Phoenix responded through Devin Booker, who nailed two early 3-pointers and capitalized on the Lakers’ turnovers to bring the Suns back within striking distance. Booker’s sharpshooting, along with contributions from Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, kept the game competitive.

LeBron James made his presence felt, finishing a powerful dunk in the first quarter that brought the LA crowd to its feet.

The Lakers established a 33-25 by the end of the period.

Midway through the second, James and Davis ignited the Lakers’ offense. James notched a pair of 3-pointers, and Davis dominated inside. Beal tried to keep the Suns competitive, but the Lakers’ defensive pressure, highlighted by multiple steals, turned the tide.

As the clock ticked down, the Lakers capitalized on their momentum, with James sealing the quarter with a putback layup for his 19th point and Davis converting a driving dunk for his 17th point. The Lakers surged ahead of the Phoenix Suns, ending the half with a commanding 69-57 lead.

The Lakers maintained their lead despite sitting out their stars in the third quarter. After a back-and-forth affair, rookie Dalton Knecht found Gabe Vincent for a buzzer-beating 3-pointer that gave the Lakers a 92-85 lead at the end of the third quarter.

However, the Suns used a strong fourth quarter to stun the Lakers. With just under seven minutes remaining, the Suns trailed 107-95. However, thanks to Josh Okogie, who finished with 15 points, and contributions from other bench players, Phoenix unleashed an offensive surge to tie the game at 109-109 with just over two minutes left.

Despite the Lakers' attempts to regain control, Phoenix's defense tightened, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on fast breaks. The Suns ended the game on a 23-8 run, culminating in a commanding dunk from Ryan Dunn that sealed the deal.
