Looking at how both teams have performed leading up to Saturday's Serbia vs South Sudan game
Heading into Saturday's Serbia vs South Sudan game, both teams have had mixed success leading up to, and throughout the 2024 Paris Olympics. Serbia posted a 3-2 record throughout their five international friendly games after finishing second in the 2023 FIBA World Cup last summer.
With three-time MVP Nikola Jokic on the team's Olympic roster, Serbia began their international friendly slate with high hopes. In their first game on Jul. 12, the team picked up a big win over Victor Wembanyama and Les Bleus. However, the team then dropped back-to-back games against Australia and the United States.
Despite that, they were able to bounce back in a big way with a 119-100 win over Japan on Jul. 21, and a 94-72 win over Greece on Jul. 22. Once Olympic action tipped off, Serbia lost their opening game to the United States 110-84, before then bouncing back with a big win over Puerto Rico on Jul. 31.
On the flip side, prior to Saturday's Serbia vs South Sudan game, South Sudan posted a 2-2 record through their four international friendly games leading up to the Olympics.
The team, which is the youngest nation to be competing in the Olympics, lost its first international friendly of the summer to Argentina. They then bounced back with an 80-72 win over Portugal on Jul. 16, and an 84-81 win over Great Britain on Jul. 18.
The team then lost a closely contested game against the United States on Jul. 20, which went down to the wire, with Team USA picking up a narrow 101-100 win.
Once Group Phase action tipped off at the Paris Olympics, South Sudan picked up a big win over Puerto Rico before then falling to the United States in a highly-anticipated rematch.
