As of Thursday morning, James is 422 points away from passing the record that has been held by Kareem since 1989.

Throughout the year, LeBron has been asked repeatedly about his pursuit of the record. The forward has reiterated that, while it's an incredible accomplishment, he wants to win more than anything at this stage of his career. LeBron recently turned 38-years-old. His time to compete for a championship is running out.

With the Lakers battling to get into the NBA Playoffs conversation, James knows it could be one of his last chances to make a run at a title. Appearing on "Undisputed," analyst Skip Bayless called out LeBron for "selling the narrative" when it comes to the scoring record.

“I don’t know why LeBron keeps selling this narrative. It feels like a ‘give up’ speech,” Skip Bayless said.
