Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors picked up a big win on Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. But that didn't end up being the top story from the game.
In the final quarter of a close game, Curry was seen throwing his mouthpiece while visibly frustrated. The event took place after Curry looked to be wanting a pass for an open shot. Instead, teammate Jordan Poole took a deep three-pointer with plenty of time left on the shot clock.
Curry let the best of his emotions get to him, throwing his mouthpiece into the stands. Ironically enough for the Warriors, Jordan Poole would go on to be a hero in the game. He ended up scoring the game-winning layup to defeat the Grizzlies 122-120.
Appearing on "Undisputed," analyst Skip Bayless believed that Steph Curry had crossed the line. Bayless said that this is a bad look for Curry, using the phrases "showboating" and "hotdogging" to explain the incident.
"This is a bad look for Steph Curry. I've said from the start I’ve had issues with his showboating and hotdogging, but this one crossed a big line to me. That is egregiously showing up a teammate."
Golden State Warriors pick up win despite Steph Curry ejection
The impressive performance from the Golden State Warriors should have been the main story of the game. Unfortunately, for Golden State, it won't be the center of attention in the media.
Curry has been a competitive star throughout his career in the NBA. It's not a shock to see some players have their emotions get the best of them. Curry had a sensational game before the ejection. He finished with 34 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three-point range.
Golden State has struggled to generate and keep momentum building throughout the 2022-23 season. The win against the Memphis Grizzlies puts the Warriors back at .500 with a record of 24-24. Golden State has some favorable upcoming matchups, including games against the Toronto Raptors and Oklahoma City Thunder.
The hope is that the Warriors can use this emotion to their advantage. For now, it looks as if the incident between Curry and Jordan Poole wasn't as serious as the media believes. Curry joked that after Poole's game-winner, he threw his mouthpiece at Curry in the tunnel. The hope is that the team takes this in a joking manner and it isn't the start of anything bigger.
