The LA Lakers on Thursday stirred online buzz after announcing they had assigned Bronny James to the G-League. ESPN's Shams Charania reported on X (formerly Twitter) that LeBron James' son is expected to play his first game with the South Bay Lakers on Saturday against the Salt Lake City Stars.

According to Charania, the younger James will be with the Lakers on Friday when they face the Philadelphia 76ers, then return to the G-League for his debut the next day.

The ESPN insider also reported that the Lakers' plan is for Bronny to only play home games for South Bay.

Fans quickly reacted to the update on Bronny.

"He’s gotta be the highest paid G league player in the NBA, right?" one fan quipped.
"Should be waived to the shanghai sharks being honest," another fan said.
"Maybe he can average 6 points a game there," another added.

NBA teams utilize their G-League affiliates not only for player development but also to help players prepare for their return to the court.

Other fans liked the idea of the Lakers rookie being in the G-League.

"Good for him, get reps and become better," a fan said.
"Good that they’re letting him develop more in the g-league," another fan said.
"Gives Bronny a good chance to get game time against good competition," another added.

Bronny has appeared in four games with the Lakers, shooting 16.7% from the field and averaging a single point per game.

South Bay Lakers coach talks about the addition of Bronny James

Zach Guthrie, the head coach of the South Bay Lakers, already has a plan in place for working with Bronny James.

"The conversations with Bronny are just like the conversations with Maxwell, with Jalen, with Quincy, with Armel and with Christian," Guthrie said.
"We're a process-oriented group. Whenever that time comes for Bronny to be on the team, just like it is with Maxwell and Jalen, we’re going to be process-oriented."

Guthrie added that he wants Bronny to enjoy the experience and make the most of the opportunities with South Bay.
