“They have the worst starting backcourt in the NBA…They're going to need to be carried by a guy in Year 20” – NBA analyst highlights the flaws of Lakers, asserts Anthony Davis should be a center

Tuesday night showed plenty of flaws for the LA Lakers and gave us a sneak peek into what issues they are going to have to deal with this season.

The Lakers, who lost 123-109 to the Golden State Warriors, simply aren't a good team at the moment, and there are a few reasons why. One big reason that many people are currently talking about is hitting outside shots.

If a team can't make 3-pointers in this league in today's game, it typically isn't going to find much success. Although that's not the sole reason why teams win championships, it's something many want because it spaces the floor for their guys to work. With LeBron James on the LA Lakers, if they surrounded him with some shooters, they would be one of the league's best teams again.

Analyst Nick Wright believes that the Lakers currently have the NBA's worst starting backcourt. It's tough to agree with him considering that they still have a former MVP in Russell Westbrook and an above-average defender in Patrick Beverley.

"The Lakers have the worst starting backcourt in the NBA of any team not tanking. ... Anthony Davis is a great center who won't player center. They're going to need to be carried by a guy in Year 20 (James) and a guy who doesn't like the position he plays (Westbrook)," Wright said.

Lakers' future with the current roster

The Lakers' future with this current roster likely isn't going to be one that this team wants. The Lakers have some interesting pieces with LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Patrick Beverley, Lonnie Walker, Kendrick Nunn, Austin Reeves and Dennis Schroder. But it doesn't seem as if the Lakers are able to mix well with Russell Westbrook, and it's causing some issues.

Although Westbrook isn't the sole reason why the Lakers have struggled, they might decide to move on from him because they trade him for shooters.

The one thing that the Lakers are missing right now is outside shooters. So, if they have the potential to add some of those guys, it could be in their best interest. Their current roster doesn't look like it's going to do anything this season, so the Lakers could do something sooner rather than later.

Anthony Davis' potential to be an MVP

Some want to think about the old Anthony Davis and say that he still has an opportunity to win an MVP this season. Unfortunately for those people, that scenario doesn't seem likely.

The reality with Davis is that he is going to put up stats, but he probably won't play enough games in order to win the award. The MVP is going to be focused on teams that win and guys who play in plenty of games throughout the year. Davis is going to have to face two of those challenges.
