Back in 2017, rookie Donovan Mitchell was drafted by the Utah Jazz. Mitchell signed a four-year contract worth $14.56 million with the Jazz. He made approximately $3.64 million per season.

Typically, rookies tend to go crazy whenever they've received their first paycheck. However, Donovan decided to take a different route and spend it on something more important.

According to sources, Donovan Mitchell spent his first $1 million on his family's needs. "Spida" first bought an Audi worth $50,000 for his mother. Donovan even pulled off the ultimate surprise by delivering the car to his mom's workplace. He even wrote a special message on an Instagram post from 2017 saying:

"Words can’t describe how happy I am to be able to give you this car! I remember listening to a song walking around Louisville after being in the gym at 2 am, and I texted you and said I’m gonna make sure you never have to work again! This is just the beginning! I love you so much thank you for everything you have done for me."

On top of what was an already amazing gift, Donovan Mitchell also bought his mom a house worth $250,00, somewhere in Greenwich. It was a promise he had made to his mother, fulfilling it in his rookie year.

Of course, "Spida" couldn't leave his sister, Jordan, out of the equation. Donovan bought her a Jeep worth $60,000 and also took care of her education by providing $300,000. It appears that he also fulfilled his other promise of making sure his mother no longer needs to work.

After prioritizing his family, Mitchell spent the rest of his $1 million on himself and his funding program. Donovan bought himself a Porsche Panamera worth $90,000. This was his dream car and made it his goal to purchase the vehicle once he entered the NBA.

The rest of what was left of the $1 million went to the SPIDACARES Foundation. This is Mitchell's program that helps promote mental and physical health by taking care of students in need of a scholarship.

Fast forward six years later, it appears that good karma has come back for Donovan Mitchell. He's now having a successful run with the Cleveland Cavaliers as they recently clinched the 4th seed in the East. His fortune is coming back too as he is now signed to a five-year deal worth $163 million.
