Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors lost more than a game when they fell to the Indiana Pacers 125-119. The Warriors will be without "Chef Curry" due to a shoulder injury he sustained during the third quarter of the game. Today on ESPN’s “PTI” the hosts discussed what the team will have to do going forward. Host Tony Kornheiser talked about what happened to one of the Warriors when Steph left.
“Draymond Green got thumbed” - Tony Kornheiser
Kornheiser referenced Draymond Green coming out of the game after Steph Curry got injured. Green’s stats were poor in the road loss to the Pacers. In 27 minutes of play, he only managed 1 point, 2 rebounds and 3 assists, to go along with 6 turnovers. He was not an asset on the court.
The Warriors came into the game shorthanded as Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson were both out of the lineup. Steph Curry had a great game before he was forced out. Curry scored 38 points and had 7 rebounds and 7 assists in just 30 minutes of action.
The hosts also spoke on the Warriors' struggles this season prior to Steph's injury. The team is 2-13 on the road this season. The team is currently in 10th place in the Western Conference with a record of 14-15. Without their star, the team could be in even bigger trouble and fall further down the standings.
The team will need Jordan Poole to step up in Curry’s absence. He was instrumental in the team remaining afloat last season when Klay Thompson and Curry had to miss games. Thompson will also need to step up and get back to form if the Warriors want to defend their title.
Steph Curry's Big Year
Curry’s injury comes at a bad time for him and the team. He is playing some of the best basketball of his career and could be an MVP candidate if the Warriors improve their record. He is on pace to be a part of the 50-40-90 club, which is shooting above 50% from the field, above 40% from three and 90% from the free throw line. He did this in the 2015-16 season.
Curry is averaging 30.0 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game (career-high), and 6.8 assists per game. Hopefully, he can pick up this pace when he returns from injury.
