Tristan Thompson anticipates LeBron James & Kyrie Irving reunion

Tristan Thompson is buying all the rumors and reports of Kyrie Irving and LeBron James targeting a reunion in Los Angeles. Throughout this season, the leading theory was that the LA Lakers would get rid of Russell Westbrook to reunite Irving and James.

When the team brought D'Angelo Russell on board, many believed that the chances of a reunion between Irving and James had all but disappeared. Although Irving will hit free agency this offseason, the Lakers likely won't have the cap room to make him a fair offer.

However, according to Tristan Thompson, the success the duo had together in Cleveland warrants a reunion. During a recent appearance on The Draymond Green Show, Thompson spoke about the situation, saying:

"I've been pushing that reuniting coming together for so long. With Kyrie and LeBron it was almost like a match made in heaven like they brought the best out of each other, it was like the things that Kyrie does great is different than what LeBron did great. It was beautiful to watch... Together it was almost unstoppable.
"I think in terms of could it happen? Yes. Will I continue to push it when I'm on TV? Most definitely because I think Kyrie brings the best out of LeBron and LeBron does the same thing, brings the best out of Kyrie. It almost feels like it wasn't finished. Like it wasn't finished the way it was supposed to."

Could Tristan Thompson reunite Kyrie and LeBron in LA?

Although many have continued to call for a reunion between Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, the LA Lakers have seemingly distanced themselves from the conversation. As the team has made clear, they plan to re-sign D'Angelo Russell this off-season.

Without the cap space to make Irving a big offer, the Mavericks would have to do a sign-and-trade if they were to send him to LA. Similarly, the team could look to sign and trade D'Angelo Russell this offseason, depending on how they play their cards.

At the same time, there have been questions about whether or not Irving and Kevin Durant are planning to try and reunite in Phoenix this offseason. Given the scheming the pair did to land in Brooklyn, it isn't outside of the realm of possibility.

However, as Marc Stein pointed out, Irving and Durant certainly didn't seem to be overly friendly with one another when the Suns played the Mavericks recently. Given the recent three-game skid that has pushed the Dallas Mavericks out of postseason contention, who knows what Irving's off-season plans could include?

With all that in mind, it certainly seems as though Tristan Thompson has an uphill battle ahead if he hopes to reunite the pair in LA. How do you see things playing out?
