Steve Kerr hails Victor Wembanyama as ‘amazing’ in return game
Tonight marked Victor Wembanyama’s return after missing three games due to a bruised knee. In his comeback, he led the Spurs to a 104-94 upset victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.
San Antonio had been down by as many as 20 points in the game, but a dominant 33-13 fourth quarter, during which Wembanyama scored 12 of his 25 points, helped the Spurs complete the comeback.
Even Warriors coach Steve Kerr couldn’t help but praise the Spurs star after the game.
"He was amazing," Kerr said (per SI). "Blocking shots, thwarting others, just being a presence in the paint, it was an impressive performance by him and the whole team defensively."
In addition to his scoring, Wembanyama contributed nine assists, seven rebounds, and three blocks, anchoring the Spurs’ defense, which limited the Warriors — one of the league’s top-10 offenses — to just 13 points in the final quarter.
"It was excellent — 13 points in the fourth quarter versus a team that has been there many times and thrives in those moments," San Antonio interim coach Mitch Johnson said (per NBA.com). "I am very happy with the physicality, with the connectivity. It was our best quarter to date, in my opinion, defensively."
Victor Wembanyama is averaging 22.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game this season.
