Victor Wembanyama's rebounding prowess saw the San Antonio Spurs get ahead of the Sacramento Kings with a sustainable lead on Monday at Frost Bank Center. The big recorded 11 rebounds at the time of writing and one of his two blocks included swatting off Domantas Sabonis' move of trying to get one up over him by getting him off-balance.

The French phenom had 20 points and 11 rebounds as the third quarter inched to a close. He also recorded five assists and two blocks while at it. Wembanyama shot 8-15 from the field, 4-8 from the 3-point line, and was a +17 on the floor.

By the end of the game, Wembanyama had notched up 34 points and 14 rebounds as the Kings were sent packing 116-96. The win also the Spurs improve to 5-6 and inch closer to the .500 mark. They are placed 12th in the West.

Victor Wembanyama outlines Spurs' mentality for the season: "Building brick by brick"

Speaking to the media after the win, Victor Wembanyama said San Antonio's approach was to get better and confident as the season progresses.

"We're all confident,"We're all eager to have everybody back. I think our mentality is more [about] building this, brick by brick, every day. Of course, we can dream about the long term, but at the end of the day, we can only do things today, so we're trying to be good every day. It definitely feels like we're getting better, but we for sure don't want to stop. This is our emphasis right now, I'd say. No stopping, just keep getting better."

The Spurs' play the rebuilding Washington Wizards who have had their share of struggles early on in the season. A win will project them to 6-6 and a spot closer to the top 10. Soon after, they play the LA Lakers followed by two title-contending teams the Dallas Mavericks and the OKC Thunder.

San Antonio has placed massive expectations on Victor Wembanyama in his second season in the league. Labeled as a generational superstar, the center has been dishing out impressive performances averaging 19.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. He has been shooting 44.6% from the field, 31.3% from the deep, and nailing 92.1% of his free throws.

The Spurs are battling health and the absence of veteran winner coach Gregg Popovich. If they continue to stack up wins and consolidate their position, the side will be better-placed for a play-in push at the least as the season rolls on.
