Portland Trail Blazers rookie wing Shaedon Sharpe turned heads on Wednesday (Mar. 22) night versus Utah.

That came after the high-flying No. 7 pick threw down an electric one-handed alley-oop dunk in transition midway through the second quarter.

Shaedon Sharpe scores career-high 24 points as Blazers beat Jazz

Portland Trail Blazers rookie wing Shaedon Sharpe

Shaedon Sharpe went on to end Wednesday’s game with a career-high 24 points. He added nine rebounds, three assists and four steals on 47.4% shooting as the Blazers picked up a much-needed 127-115 road win over Utah.

Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard led Portland with 30 points, seven rebounds and 12 assists on 42.1% shooting. Meanwhile, Utah was led by star forward Lauri Markkanen, who finished with a game-high 40 points, 12 rebounds and three assists on 60.9% shooting.

The win snapped Portland’s six-game losing streak. Following the victory, Blazers coach Chauncey Billups spoke about how pleased he was with his team’s all-around effort in a tough road environment:

“I liked everything from the team tonight,” Billups said. “We had a really good, focused shootaround today and just talked about how we wanted to execute offensively and defensively. And the guys were just really, really locked in. So many great efforts from so many players in the game tonight."

He continued:

“This is a tough environment. This has always been one of the toughest places to play. That’s a good team over there. A really, really, really good offensive team, and they’re coached very well. So, we had to be disciplined in this game."

Despite putting up an excellent all-round performance on Wednesday, the win may prove to be inconsequential for the Blazers. That's because Portland (32-40) still sit 13th in the Western Conference with just ten games remaining.

Portland is now 3.5 games behind the tenth-placed LA Lakers (36-37) for the final play-in spot in the West. That means the Blazers will have to win most of their final ten games to even have a shot at the play-in.

Moreover, Portland is also still dealing with multiple injuries to key players, including starting forward Jerami Grant (quad) and starting shooting guard Anfernee Simons (foot). So all things considered, it looks like another lost season for the Blazers.

Portland will next play on Friday (Mar. 24) against Chicago (34-38, tenth in the East). Meanwhile, Utah (35-37, 11th in the West) will next play on the same day against Milwaukee (52-20, first in the East).
