Charles Barkley once wasn't in the best shape of his life after his playing days. However, the issue was: Barkley continued to gain way too much weight and couldn't burn it all just as he did when he played in the NBA.

Gaining weight after you play a professional sport makes sense. Players typically aren't living that same type of life, specifically in terms of training. Barkley revealed that he has gained over 100 pounds since he retired and that his trainer thinks he should lose weight:

“I had gained a hundred pounds since I retired, and I’ve lost 44 (pounds). My trainer wanted me to lose about 85 pounds, but apparently, I was really fat,” Barkley said.

About puttting cookies in the locker room while working out, he said:

“I’m workin’ out about 5 hours a day; I got to ease up on the potatoes, ease up on the pasta; you couldn’t be eating a lot of cookies and candy. That was my dirty trick to put cookies in my locker room. I have to always be on guard. I can never let my guard down.”

There was a time when Scottie Pippen said something about Barkley's weight. Charles Barkley assured him that it wouldn't have been the case if he was still an NBA player:

"The most money I've ever made is like $5 million. I've been blessed. I don't care about money. But if somebody told me they were getting ready to give me $200 million, I would be the skinniest power forward in the history of civilization," Barkley pointed out.

Charles Barkley still checks his weight

Charles Barkley recently played in a golf event and said that he wasn't in the best shape because of a hip surgery. While it's tough to lose weight whenever you're going through an injury and are older, Chuck still knew he needed to drop some weight:

"I got to get in better shape because I played great," Barkley said. "Marcus Allen pulled me aside and said, 'Man, I got to tell you something. I'm so pissed at you right now." I said, 'What is it?' He says, 'You are so much better than 20 more of these players, but your lack of conditioning just kicked your a**.'"

"I'm down about 50 pounds. I've been doing the intermittent fasting thing where I've been eating one time a day," Barkley revealed. "I'm down 52 (pounds), but I gained 94 when I got my new hips. I just got to get in better shape ... No reason for being fat, man. Just put the fork down, Chuck."

Charles Barkley looks to still be in good shape, but just as he said, he's looking to lose some more weight.
