When Charles Barkley kept missing out on chance to play against Phil Mickelson due to hilarious confusion

Charles Barkley is a huge fan of golf and has made friends with several top golfers such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Barkley once revealed that he kept missing out on chances to play against Mickelson due to a hilarious confusion.

In a video posted by Mickelson on social media in November 2020, Barkley recalled how he met the golf legend. The former NBA MVP explained that he met Mickelson's wife, Amy, during his time with the Phoenix Suns. Amy was a cheerleader for the Suns back then.

"Amy was the greatest lady," Barkley said. "I got to know her really well. And when I got traded to Phoenix, things were really really hectic, so I had a tight schedule. She says to me, 'Hey, will you play golf with my boyfriend Phil?' I'm like, 'Yeah, yeah, okay.'

"Like a month later she says, 'Are you gonna play golf with my boyfriend Phil?' I'm like, 'Yeah, I'll play golf with your boyfriend Phil.'"

Charles Barkley added that he got confused and thought Amy Mickelson was dating a bartender named Phil, not Phil Mickelson.

It was a hilarious story with a very happy ending, though. Barkley has played with Mickelson and even teamed up with the golf legend for "The Match 3."

"Three months in, she goes, 'Are you ever going to play golf with my boyfriend Phil?' And I'm like, 'Okay Amy, what's the deal? What's his name?' And she's like, 'Phil Mickelson.'

"I said, 'You're going out with Phil Mickelson? Amy, in the future, you start out with my boyfriend Phil Mickelson. I thought you were going out with Phil the bartender.' I would have canceled everything to go play golf with the great Phil Mickelson."

Charles Barkley prefers to hang out with Phil Mickelson than Tiger Woods

Charles Barkley has been friends with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Barkley even provided his thoughts on both golf legends in Mickelson's biography that was released on May 15.

He called Woods a better golfer but added that Mickelson was more fun to be with, saying:

"Sure, Tiger is a better golfer. You're just in awe of his talent. But it’s not fun to be around him. Everyone in his world is uptight and s**t, afraid to say or do the wrong thing. Tiger himself has always acted like he's under siege.

Gimme a f***ing break. You're just a golfer, dude. ... When you're with Phil, you're guaranteed to have fun. He makes people feel good. Everyone around him is always smiling. That's a huge difference, man."
