With Grant McCasland in the headlines this week after being hired by Texas Tech as the program's basketball coach, many are wondering about McCasland's wife. As it turns out, the pair's relationship is closely tied to the school as well.

According to the Texas Tech announcement on their website regarding his appointment as head coach, McCasland met his wife Cece while at the school. From 1999-2001 McCasland was the Director of Operations for the school.

The couple, who also have four children together, will feel right at home back with Texas Tech. Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt stated in his announcement, as quoted by TexasTech.com, that the team is happy to welcome the entire family:

"Our search committee was immediately impressed not only by Coach McCasland and his ability to win at every level of college basketball, all while creating a positive culture built upon toughness, but also his passion for Texas Tech and his vision for our basketball program.
"We are pleased to welcome Coach McCasland, his wife, Cece, and their entire family back home to Texas Tech."

Grant McCasland’s career as a coach

Grant McCasland was named the Texas Tech head coach after helping lead North Texas to three conference titles. After the team won the NIT championship on Thursday night, they closed the book on the program’s first 30-win season.

The past two years, the team led the nation in scoring defense, limiting opposing teams to an average of just 55.7 points per game in back to back years. UNT athletic director Jared Mosley spoke about his impact on the team’s success. He was quoted by ESPN as saying:

"He established a program that has won championships, reached new postseason heights, and brought many moments of excitement to Mean Green fans. He and his family will be missed in Denton, but we are excited about the foundation that has been built and what is to come for UNT Basketball.”

As he sets his sights on leading Texas Tech in the future, Grant McCasland’s wife and kids will have a front row seat to his journey. This season, Texas Tech came up short in early March in the Big 12 Tournament, marking the end of their season. Amid abuse allegations, coach Mark Adams stepped down shortly after the end of the season.

With a new coach, only time will tell whether McCasland is able to bring the same success to Texas Tech as he did with UNT.
