Richard Jefferson's father, Richard Jefferson Sr., was the victim of gun violence nearly five years ago. As the case is still ongoing, the police have recently offered a huge reward for any information regarding what went down.

Richard Jefferson's father was shot and killed in Compton, California in a drive-by shooting. The police believe gang members had mistaken Jefferson Sr. for somebody else.

According to the LA Times, the police department has put up a $20,000 reward. When this all first went down, the reward was posted at $10,000 dollars.

“It appears Mr. Jefferson was an innocent bystander killed in a senseless act of violence.

It was also reported that Jerrson Sr. and the people he was with at the time of the shooting had no gang affiliations.

Did Richard Jefferson's father have a good relationship with the longtime NBA veteran

While fans today mainly know him as an analyst for ESPN, Richard Jefferson enjoyed a long and successful NBA career. He was the 13th overall pick in the 2001 draft and went on to play 17 seasons in the league.

Jefferson started his career with the New Jersey Nets, but suited up for eight different franchises. Some of those include the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

By far the biggest moment of Jefferson's career was when he was with the Cavs. Playing alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, he was part of the group that completed a 3-1 comeback in the NBA Finals. It was the only championship win of his long career.

When he retired, Jefferson had over 1,100 games under his belt. In that time, he averaged 12.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.

Richard Jefferson's father didn't have a great relationship with his son growing up, but the two managed to come together in their later years. His parents split when they were young and he went and lived with his mom in Arizona.

By the time he was older, Richard Jefferson did has things out with his dad. Their relationship was so good at the end that his family would spend their summers in LA, not far from his hometown.

There is no telling what a situation like this has done to the Jefferson family. Hopefully, this new reward might lead to new information that can get them one step closer to finally having closure.
