Ryan Rollins is a former NBA draft pick that is now facing criminal charges. New broke Friday afternoon that the 21-year-old guard is connected to a series of shoplifting incidents over the last few months.

Rollins began this season with the Washington Wizards, but was waived following this news. In the story put out by The Athletic, it is believed he stole an assortment of smaller products valued at around $1,000 total. Rollins has since been charged with multiple counts of larceny.

"Police said in court documents that Rollins stole small household items such as groceries, body wash and candles from a Target store from Sept. 9 to Nov. 9, when he was on the Wizards' roster. He was charged with seven counts of petit larceny, and the items alleged to have been stolen in each incident were valued at less than $1,000."

Ryan Rollins was just getting his professional career off the ground, but things have now been derailed. Before entering the league, he played two years of college basketball at Toledo. In his sophomore season, Rollins averaged 18.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.

The charges Rollins is facing are considered a Class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia. His court hearing is already scheduled for early February. When asked about the situation, Rollins' representation declined to comment.


How long was Ryan Rollins in the NBA for?

After his second college season, Ryan Rollins decided to enter his name in the 2022 NBA Draft. The Atlanta Hawks selected him in the second round with the 44th pick.

Later on draft night, Rollins found himself traded from the Hawks to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Tyrese Martin. As a rookie, he logged 62 minutes across a span of 12 games. In that time, Rollins averaged 1.9 PPG, 1.0 RPG, and 0.5 APG.

During the 2023 offseason, Ryan Rollins found himself on the move again. The Warriors packaged him a trade with the Washington Wizards centered around Jordan Poole and Chris Paul.

With his new team, Rollins still wasn't see much playing time. He appeared in only 10 games, and averaged 6.6 minutes. As news began developing regarding the shoplifting, the Wizards decided to waive him on January 8th.

As a second-round pick, Rollins was earning a considerably small amount compared to his peers. During his rookie season, the Warriors paid him $1.7 million. His deal for this season was partially guaranteed, only leaving the Wizards on the hook for $600,000. Washington quickly filled up Rollins' roster spot by signing veteran forward Hamidou Diallo to a 10-day deal.

While Ryan Rollins did show some promise as a prospect, his future in the NBA is now uncertain as he gets ready to face larceny charges.
