Whose record did Buddy Hield break by hitting the fastest 3-pointer in NBA history?

Indiana Pacers v Golden State Warriors
Buddy Hield dropped a three-pointer three seconds into the game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers.

Two days ago, Buddy Hield, upon the urging of Tyrese Haliburton’s dad, vowed to shoot the ball more often instead of dribbling it. In tonight’s game between the Indiana Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the shooting guard did this:

Per NBA.com Stats, Hield’s three-pointer in just three seconds of the game beat the record set by Pacers legend Reggie Miller in 2000. The former all-time three-point shot leader hit his trifecta in four seconds.

Miller’s Pacers were at the old Oracle Arena in Oakland visiting the Golden State Warriors when he sunk the historical shot. “Uncle Reg” knocked down 3-7 long-range shots to score 15 points and led his team to a 114-95 win.

Buddy Hield, in tonight’s game, made 5-6 rainbow shots on his way to 25 points. He hit 10-14 shots, which should make Tyrese Haliburton’s dad proud.

He is averaging 17.7 points on a team-leading 41.9% from three-point distance. His shooting has been as good as advertised and is the main reason why he’s going to be a coveted name in trade talks.

Haliburton was no slouch either from beyond the arc. When he wasn’t orchestrating the offense or drawing defenses with his drive, he was just as unstoppable from deep. He dropped 6-8 trifectas and kept the Pacers’ blistering offense humming.

Reggie Miller may have lost his record but he could be smiling now, knowing it was claimed by a Pacer in a huge win.

Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield have made the Indiana Pacers one of the NBA’s most pleasant surprises

Trading for Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield have surprisingly made the Indiana Pacers better than many expected.
Trading for Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield have surprisingly made the Indiana Pacers better than many expected.

The Indiana Pacers looked headed for a full rebuild when they traded Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings for Buddy Hield and Tyrese Haliburton. Indiana then shipped Malcolm Brogdon to the Boston Celtics for several players and picks.

The Pacers were also reportedly willing to unload Myles Turner and Hield if they can get the right compensation.

Instead of becoming one of the worst teams in the NBA, they have turned out to be the surprise no one probably saw coming.

Tyrese Haliburton has been making a serious push for his first-time NBA All-Star selection while Buddy Hield has been lights out. Myles Turner has retained his form despite his obvious desire to play for the LA Lakers.

The Indiana Pacers, however, have received strong plays from their rookies Bennedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard. Mathurin could challenge for the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award, while Nembhard has given Haliburton another deadly shooter roaming the perimeter.

Head coach Rick Carlisle’s team has also been fun to watch despite their rebounding woes and turnover woes. They’re ninth in the NBA on three-point shooting behind Buddy Hield’s elite marksmanship. Indiana has also been able to count on Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner and Andrew Nembhard to consistently hit three-point shots.

The Pacers also share the ball extremely well and that is largely because of Haliburton’s style of play. Hield and Haliburton have been the biggest reasons why they could grab a coveted playoff spot this season.
