Under the cold, gloomy night of Cleveland, Paolo Banchero has handed the Orlando Magic a devastating blow with the news that he will sit out their NBA schedule in November. His absence starts with the team’s fourth game of the season on the road against the Chicago Bulls this Friday.

After an incredible start to the new season and some great performances, including a career-high 50 points against the Indiana Pacers, many Magic fans hoped that this would be the season that Paolo Banchero’s true talent would shine in the league and the world. Unfortunately, Banchero suffered a hip injury and will be reportedly on the sidelines for six weeks.

What happened to Paolo Banchero?

Paolo Banchero initially sustained an injury in the second quarter during a collision with Nikola Vucevic and Patrick Williams. Despite the initial impact, he continued to play through the Chicago Bulls vs Orlando Magic game on Wednesday.

However, the severity of the injury became apparent in the fourth quarter when he attempted a shot, drawing three defenders. Unable to complete the shot, the 21-year-old passed the ball and landed awkwardly. It is believed that this specific play resulted in the torn right oblique muscle injury.

This is the first major injury for the Magic star, who could be out for several weeks. Current reports suggest that he could return to action within four to six weeks. Before this, Banchero had an impressive record of durability, missing only 12 games throughout his two-year NBA career.

Will the Orlando Magic cope without its star Paolo Banchero?

Paolo Banchero has been a near-ever-present for Jamahl Mosley this season, averaging 29.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 0.8 blocks per game on 49.5 percent shooting from the field. His scoring average is the highest for a player aged 21 or younger since LeBron James in 2005. Hence, his absence for the next four to six weeks is a significant blow for the Florida team.

Another thing that sets him apart from others is his energy and athleticism. Banchero has the ability to cover the whole court and also make important runs and points. He also has a court vision and plays balls for his teammates. Therefore, his absence could force Mosley to rethink his basic formation.

Coach Mosley has a big task to accomplish in the crucial month of November: maintaining competitiveness in the Eastern Conference, beginning with the Bulls on Friday. He will have to look for big performances from multiple players - most importantly Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs - to step up in the absence of the team’s superstar.
