The Golden State Warriors announced Steph Curry’s absence for Saturday’s matchup against the Houston Rockets. Curry joined the Dubs’ practice in Houston but is scheduled for a re-evaluation on Sunday. The Warriors will update about his status after his next meeting with team doctors.

Curry will miss his third straight game when the Bay Area team visits the Rockets. He watched from the sidelines in the Warriors’ back-to-back wins against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday and Wednesday.

What happened to Steph Curry?

Curry twisted his ankle on Sunday in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 112-104 loss to the LA Clippers. He worked with trainers on the bench before Steve Kerr sent him back in the fourth quarter. The two-time MVP promptly rolled his ankle while trying to set a screen on the sidelines. He grimaced in pain as he limped to the locker room.

The NBA’s greatest shooter has a long history of ankle problems. When he suffers this kind of injury, the Warriors never hesitate to err on the side of caution. They will carefully monitor him before giving him the clearance to play.

When will Curry return?

After the re-evaluation on Sunday, the Golden State Warriors have a game on Monday in Washington. If he gets the green light to play, he will start for the Dubs against the Wizards.

Curry practicing with his team is a good sign and welcome news for the Warriors fan base. However, he will only make his return if team doctors are satisfied that he is ready to play again.

The Warriors have been carefully monitoring Steph Curry’s minutes before his ankle injury

Last season, Steph Curry averaged 32.7 minutes per game. So far, Steve Kerr has played him 26.3 MPG this season after the point guard’s long summer with Team USA. Kerr, who coached the gold-medal-winning side, knew what Curry went through in that tournament. They are easing him into the action to start the 2024-25 NBA season.

Curry’s injury will likely force Kerr to continue limiting the franchise cornerstone’s minutes. The Warriors will exercise extreme caution once their superstar returns.
