Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton has emerged as one of the best young players in the league. Haliburton sat down with former NBA player JJ Redick for the “Old Man and Three” podcast. The discussion went to players who talked trash during the game and some of the best that they have heard.
Haliburton didn’t have one that he thought was good, but he did have a memory that had him confused. He talked about a time (while with the Pacers) when they played against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves team featured the always talkative Patrick Beverly.
Tyrese Haliburton said:
"I think I had 25 and 15. like I had a good game right and Ant guarded me but after the game Pat Bev is barking because they won and I'm like what? and he guarded Buddy he got like four points."
He added:
"He looked at me dead in my eyes as I walked off the court and was like you lucky I wasn't guarding you tonight. I would've locked that shit up. I'm like, what?"
Haliburton was as confused by the interaction as he should have been. Patrick Beverly tends to try to get into his opponents' heads and was more than likely setting up Haliburton for the next time they played.
Haliburton is a bright spot for the young Pacers team
The Indiana Pacers are currently sitting at 6-6 this season with a young roster that is showing a lot of promise. Leading the team is Tyrese Haliburton, who currently averages 20.5 points and 10.3 assists per game. Should these numbers hold up, they might land him in the All-Star game in February.
The Pacers have a trio of guards that are providing them with a solid scoring punch. Haliburton, Buddy Hield, and Bennedict Mathurin are giving the team solid minutes and the rotation ensures that at least one of them is always on the floor. The oldest member of the group is Hield, who is a seven-year veteran.
Myles Turner is patrolling the middle for the team and averaging 17.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Earlier this season, Turner discussed himself being in a trade to the Lakers. The talk seems to have died down and Turner seems like a good fit to stay in Indiana.
The team also gets valuable minutes from Jalen Smith, who is averaging 11 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. The team also starting to see more from young forward Isaiah Jackson.
The Pacers will be back in action on Wednesday, November 16 on the road against the Charlotte Hornets.
