Zach Edey enjoyed a strong start to the Memphis Grizzlies' home against the LeBron James-led Lakers on Wednesday. The Grizzlies young star stamped his authority in the opening quarter as Ja Morant and Co. registered a fantastic 131-114 win over the Purple and Gold.

The rookie wasted no time establishing his presence on the offensive glass, keeping possessions alive twice after missed shots by his teammates.

At 7-foot-4, Edey's size and strength proved challenging for the Lakers, especially in the absence on Anthony Davis, as he secured six rebounds in the first quarter alone, three of them offensive. The former Purdue standout also contributed six points on a perfect 2-for-2 shooting from the field in just over four minutes.

Edey faced challenges in the second quarter and couldn’t match his strong first-period performance. The Grizzlies rookie missed both of his shot attempts and didn’t add to his initial six rebounds. The young center played just over four minutes in the second quarter as well

The rookie saw limited playing time in the second half, adding only one rebound to his first-half stats.

Edey concluded the game with eight points on 3 of 5 shooting, going a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line and grabbing a total of seven rebounds. He also recorded three turnovers and posted a plus/minus of five over 14:42 minutes.

Fans react to Zach Edey's lack of minutes vs. Lakers

Memphis Grizzlies fans were frustrated by Zach Edey's limited playing time against the Lakers, despite his impressive start to the game. Fans shared candid reactions after Edey finished the game with just under 15 minutes on the court.

"The not playing Zach Edey after he had 6 pts and 6 reb in the first 5 minutes of the game and is NOT in foul trouble needs to be investigated immediately smh," a fan wrote.
"Zach Edey, the starting C for the Grizzlies is the players with the least minutes in todays game vs the Lakers. crazy man. only when I do his over huh," said another.
"Zach Edey playing 12 minutes after having 6 rebounds in the first 4 minutes needs to be investigated by @NBA immediately. This might be be the most obvious example of rigging in the NBA," commented another fan.

Edey will be back in action on Friday when the Grizzlies cross swords against the Washington Wizards.
