Grizzlies rookies Jaylen Wells, Zach Edey top latest NBA Rookie of the Year rankings
Jaylen Wells, who has seen increased playing time amid Grizzlies injuries, has risen to the top of the latest NBA Rookie of the Year rankings. The second-round pick is averaging 11.4 points and shooting 39.2% from beyond the arc.
Meanwhile, Edey was ranked No. 2. He is putting up 11.2 points and leading rookies with 6.6 rebounds per game through 11 appearances.
Standing at 7-foot-4, Edey shares the title of tallest active player with San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama and has an impressive 7-foot-11 wingspan.
In an interview with The Commercial Appeal, Wells expressed his hope to make history alongside Edey by becoming the fourth pair of NBA co-Rookies of the Year.
"It would be cool to see me and Zach get it or if Zach gets it," he said. "I think if me and Zach get it for Memphis, that would be really cool."
Speaking to Sportskeeda’s Grant Afseth, Zach Edey said he’s still adjusting to the pace of the NBA and the Grizzlies’ offensive and defensive systems.
“I’m trying to figure out how to play within the offense — what types of shots I’ll get, what reads I need to make, and how to smoothly implement myself into it,” he said.
“It’s different. In college, my role was to alter shots without fouling. In the NBA, I can really chase blocks, so it’s a new challenge for me,” he added.
Zach Edey brings versatility to the Grizzlies with his ability to pass out of double-teams, shoot from the perimeter and his defensive presence in the paint due to his exceptional height.
