It’s been a couple of weeks since Nike ended the eBay auctions for the Nike Air MAG’s, but it’s necessary to spread the word to those who don’t know, just how much money was raised. The eBay auctions alone brought in $5,695,190.53 for the 1,500 hundred pairs over the 10 day period. Some have criticized Nike for how they went about the auction, but stop bitching, you more than likely wouldn’t have gotten a pair if they released 3,500 pairs of them. This was a way for the supremely rich to help a great cause, and add to their kicks collection. This was for guys like Kid Cudi who I think bought 37 pairs of the Air MAG’s. That’s not an accurate number, but it wouldn’t shock me if I was close. Here is the breakdown by the day…

Day 1 = $911,927.34Day 2 = $647,539.91Day 3 = $554,120.31Day 4 = $508,077.50Day 5 = $511,112.10Day 6 = $492,481.97Day 7 = $488,076.90Day 8 = $499,851.16Day 9 = $511,479.82Day 10 = $570,523.52

Total = $5,695,190.53 (Numbers reported by UG Soles)
And don’t forget, Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, said he would match the total from the auctions up to $50 million, so that brings the total up to $11,390,381.10. All of the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help with Parkinson’s Disease research. Nike really stepped up with this project. They knew shoe freaks would go crazy, and spend up to their financial limit to try and secure a pair of a shoe we will never see again. If (and that’s a big if in my opinion), Nike does re-release the Air MAG in 2015 like it’s been reported, the shoe would feature a different look. They have already secured a patent on the automatic lacing system shown in “Back To The Future II.” Since I’m not extremely rich yet, let’s hope they bump the number of these in 2015 so I at least have the option of camping out outside of a House of Hoops. However, when it comes to Nike, you just never know what they have planned.
