Orlando Magic trade J.J. Redick to Milwaukee

Orlando Magic sharpshooter J.J. Redick was sent to the Milwaukee Bucks in a 6 man deal that centred around the guard as the main piece. In the whole exchange, the Magic also sent power forward Gustavo Ayon and guard Ish Smith to their Eastern Conference foes.

Shooting guard Doron Lamb, who was drafted by the Bucks in the 2012 NBA draft along with veteran point guard Beno Udrih and young forward Tobias Harris, moved the other way to Orlando.

The move was the biggest move on the trade deadline day as much more anticipated and coveted players failed to make a move on the last day of trades allowed by the NBA this season.

The Milwaukee Bucks were in talks with the Atlanta Hawks over a possible move that would see former all-star ending up in Milwaukee. The talks were pushed to the very end but when they failed to materialise, Milwaukee moved on to add J.J. Redick to their ranks.

Redick, who is known for his threat from beyond the arc, has had a career at Orlando where he averaged career high in points (15.1) as well as in assists (4.4).

Redick should improve the back-court production of the Bucks which consists of two inefficient scorers in Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings.

It will be interesting to see what the Bucks do in the off season as all three guards can leave the team. Reddick’s contract is up at the end of the season and would be demanding much more than his $6,190,000 current salary. Ellis has an early termination option while Jennings will become a restricted free agent has has already stated his intentions of taking his services to “bigger market” teams.
