The 2024 Paris Olympics men’s basketball bronze medal game on Saturday will be between Germany and Serbia. It's a rematch of the 2023 FIBA World Cup championship in the Philippines, won 83-77 by Deutschland. Although the teams will not play for the gold this time, basketball fans can expect a highly contested matchup.

Dennis Schroder and Co. finished the preliminary stage with a perfect 3-0 mark before losing to France 73-69 in the quarter-finals. Germany led 25-18 after the first quarter but couldn’t stay in the driver’s seat. They desperately tried to chase down Les Bleus, whose clutch free-throw shooting fended off the Germans.

Meanwhile, Serbia nearly pulled off the upset of the tournament before losing 95-91 to Team USA.

The loss had to sting, as it had the Americans on the ropes but couldn't complete the job. Nikola Jokic and his teammates must get over and move on from that loss to cap off their Paris Olympic stint with a podium finish.

Paris Olympics men’s basketball bronze medal game key matchups

Nikola Jokic vs. Germany’s frontline

When Deutschland won the FIBA World Cup last year, they dominated the paint without facing Nikola Jokic. Johannes Voigtman, Daniel Theis, Mo Wagner and Franz Wagner controlled the interior. With “The Joker” showing why he's a three-time and reigning NBA MVP, the German’s frontline will be tested.

Team USA, with Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, LeBron James and Bam Adebayo alternating on him, still had trouble with Serbia’s superstar.

Meanwhile, the Germans had no answer to the physicality of the French tandem of Mathias Lessort and Gerschon Yabusele. Jokic isn’t as physical as those two, but he's a more daunting challenge.

Dennis Schroder vs Aleksa Avramovic

The Serbians will have Steph Curry nightmares for years after the Team USA point guard torched them for 36 points.

Serbia will not have the two-time MVP going up against them but will have to deal with Dennis Schroder. The Brooklyn Nets guard has been playing well for the Germans, so it's expected that Serbia coach Svetislav Pesic will use ace defender Aleksa Avramovic on Schroder.

Schroder has been orchestrating Germany’s offense with Chris Paul-like efficiency, so Avramovic’s task will not be easy. If the Serbs can limit his effectiveness, they could go home with the Paris Olympics men’s basketball bronze medal.
