Kyrie Irving has often been mentioned as a potential target this offseason for the LA Lakers. According to one Lakers insider, it looks as if that "ship has sailed" for the organization.

Irving spent most of the year as a member of the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers reportedly pursued a deal to acquire Irving at the deadline, hoping to reunite him with former teammate LeBron James. Eventually, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

The talented guard is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, which has generated the idea that the Lakers could look to sign Irving this offseason as a free agent.

According to The Athletic's Jovan Buha, it appears as if the LA Lakers might be looking in another direction. Appearing on the HoopHype podcast, Buha said that the team is looking to "run it back" with the current team next year.

He said:

"From what I’ve been told, they’re not going to be pursuing Kyrie Irving this offseason… To my knowledge and to what I’ve been told, the Kyrie ship, I think, has sailed. You never want to say never. That could easily change, but as of right now, their plan is to run this (team) back."

The Dallas Mavericks knew they were rolling the dice when it came to acquiring Kyrie Irving at the NBA trade deadline. So far, they've produced mixed results when it comes to the Mavericks play on the court.

Pairing Irving with superstar Luka Doncic has given Dallas two of the most dominant offensive talents in the league. The Mavericks are 5-6 in games in which Irving has played. He's missed the last three games while dealing with a foot injury.

Dallas currently finds itself with an overall record of 35-35, which places them in eighth place in the Western Conference standings.

The Western Conference has become a battle zone to earn a spot in the playoffs. While the Mavericks are in eighth place, they trail the Golden State Warriors by just two games for sixth place in the standings. The team has struggled as of late, with both Irving and Doncic missing time due to injuries. Dallas has won just four of its last ten games.

Irving has shown impressive flashes while playing for his new team. In 11 games for the Mavericks, Kyrie is averaging 27.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game while shooting 51.2% from the field and 41.4% from three-point range.
