Understanding the LeBron James to Golden State Warriors rumors: How they originated and is it realistic?

Sean Deveney of Heavy.com reported on a possible trade pitched by an NBA executive that sparked LeBron James to the Golden State Warriors rumors.

The Warriors have found themselves in a very precarious position this season, and look like half the team (or less) they were last year. The reigning champions have struggled severely on the road against both good and bad teams.

Jack Simone of Heavy.com, however, quoted an executive in his piece who certainly had an interesting opinion on GSW's problems. He pitched James to the Warriors trade. The unnamed executive stated:

“If there is a bidding war going on at some point, the Warriors are in a great position because they can give you the young guys ... "
"'But you have to add either Poole or [Andrew] Wiggins, and that’s not easy. But if they want to win now, you can give up Poole if you are getting back LeBron, right?
"If they keep Draymond [Green] and come back with Steph [Curry], Klay Thompson, Draymond and LeBron, that would be a fun, fun team to watch.” (via) Heavy.com

How feasible is a LeBron James to the Golden State Warriors scenario?

In theory, James and the Warriors could join together to form yet another super-team in the Bay. However, whether both parties would agree to such a possibility is more than unlikely. It looks downright impossible.

On paper, a trade could look something like this:

The Los Angeles Lakers get:

  • Jordan Poole
  • James Wiseman
  • Jonathan Kuminga

The Golden State Warriors get:

  • LeBron James

Since Poole's extension kicks in next season, a trade at the deadline is not feasible, however, the offseason is a whole other story.

The aforementioned NBA executive's opinion seems to be purely mechanical. It seems to require that neither Stephen Curry nor LeBron James care about their legacies and what they want their stories in the NBA to look like. It also doesn't take into account whether or not Golden State's front-office will be fine with leveraging their future for an NBA title.

With Stephen Curry, the Warriors will certainly have to prioritize their approach appropriately. That doesn't necessarily mean completely upending the roster to make space for James.

James has, in the past, expressed his desire to play with Stephen Curry, however, Curry's response wasn't exactly encouraging. Although James is moving towards the end of his career, Stephen Curry still has plenty left in the tank, certainly more than James.

With the contentious past LeBron James and the Golden State Warriors have, they are likely to be on different sides of the court in the future.
