Nikola Jokic and Serbia face a stern test in the 2024 Paris Olympics Men's Basketball quarterfinals against Australia. Serbia qualified with a 2-1 record, seeded second in the group stage with their only loss against gold medal favorites, Team USA.
Meanwhile, Australia made it out of the 'group of death,' going 1-2 with a win against Spain and losses against Canada and Greece. However, a better point differential than the latter saw the Aussies bag the second seed. Both teams match up well against each other on paper, and this contest could go either way.
However, the Serbians will have an edge because of three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic. He has been phenomenal for them, averaging 18.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists, shooting 64.5%. Bogdan Bogdanovic and Vasilje Micic's 19.0 and 13.0 ppg, respectively, have also been handy in Serbia's group-stage success. Meanwhile, Australia has four 10 ppg scorers. They have played most of their games with solid execution for most of the contest.
However, late-game execution has been a concern. That could haunt them against Serbia, who can be lethal in such situations, especially with Jokic firing on all cylinders. Australia does have some size and shooting, though. If they capitalize on matching Serbia in those aspects or outdo them, Josh Giddey and Co. could have a solid chance to cause an upset.
