Should Oklahoma City make a summer move for DeMarcus Cousins?

When DeMarcus Cousins completed a shock move to the Golden State Warriors last summer, many NBA analysts and fans alike declared the outcome of the 2018/19 season as a foregone conclusion.

After all, the NBA's best center was heading to a Golden State team that had won back-to-back championships, and Cousins' arrival also meant that Steve Kerr could boast a starting five consisting entirely of All-Stars.

Cousins has missed much of the season due to a torn Achilles, although the center made his long-anticipated Warriors debut against the Clippers last month. During his first outing for Kerr's side, Cousins recorded 14 points in an easy win, although Cousins has yet to replicate the form that made him the NBA's most dominant big just 14 months ago.

The 4-time All-Star is only signed to a one-year deal, and Warriors executives have already made it clear that Cousins won't be sticking around next year due to the organisation's luxury tax headache.

This means that Cousins is in the shop window for the next three months, and if he is unable to show the same form that he showed during his stint in New Orleans, then there is no chance that a rival team will hand him a long-term deal.

This leads to a situation where Cousins could sign another one-year contract this summer, and the Thunder would be wise to muscle in. After all, the franchise has historically struggled to attract free agents, and Billy Donovan's team simply doesn't have the assets to acquire a third All-Star via a trade.

Admittedly, there could be an overlap between the skill-sets of Steven Adams and Cousins, although Boogie has already demonstrated his ability to thrive alongside fellow-big Anthony Davis in New Orleans. Ultimately, the opportunity to sign Cousins would be too good to pass up on, and the Thunder should continue to monitor the 28-year-old's contract situation.
