Though this game read Lakers vs. Bucks, most of the headlines were Lebron vs. Giannis. LeBron got the win with 37 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Even with these stats, the highlight of LeBron James’ performance was his defense. When asked about the victory, Lakers coach Frank Vogel said -
“What was more impressive to me was [Lebron's] defense on Giannis … For him to take on that assignment and still do what he did offensively, just an incredible performance."
Not only did this keep LeBron’s name high up in the argument for MVP, winning the game also meant Los Angeles clinched their first playoff spot since 2014. The win ended their longest drought in playoff history.
#2- 2020 Western Conference Finals vs. Denver Nuggets (September 26th, 2020)
To get himself into the NBA Finals, LeBron James needed to overcome a tough Denver Nuggets squad. Being up 3-1 was no guarantee for the LA Lakers due to how familiar the Nuggets had been with being down in a series and coming back to win.
But LeBron James quickly silenced this in Game 5 of the series by scoring 38 points with 10 assists and 16 rebounds. James shot 15-of-25 from the field in 40 minutes on the floor. He made sure his triple-double spoke louder than the tenacity of his opponents and in the end, proved to be dominant again in the clutch.
#1- 2020 NBA Finals, Game 6 win over the Miami Heat
During the finals series against the Miami Heat, James to averaged 24.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 24 games. He showed his immense leadership in this situation with 2019 being Anthony Davis’ first year as a Laker. Lebron James capped off the series in Game 6 by completing his 11th Finals triple-double, taking the series at 4 wins and 2 losses.
He walked off the court after 41 hard-fought minutes with 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists to win his first championship with the Lakers. It was his 4th finals victory and 4th NBA Finals MVP Award. This made LeBron James the 4th player in NBA history to win a championship for three different franchises, and the 1st to win NBA Finals MVP with three different teams.
