The Brooklyn Nets are trending in the wrong direction, and Kevin Durant could be the next domino to fall. After Kyrie Irving's recent suspension, many are wondering if trade talks for Durant could resume once again.

Heading into last season, Brooklyn was viewed as a landslide favorite to make it to the NBA Finals. Since then, it's been a revolving door of controversy for the Nets. Brooklyn went on to be swept in the first round of the playoffs. From there, many believed that the Nets could become a popular bounce-back team this season.

But then the offseason brought plenty of chaos. Durant requested a trade from the organization moments before the start of the free agency period. There was even speculation that Irving would also be on the move. Since then, both parties have returned to the team with the hope of getting the Nets back on track.

Brooklyn's struggles didn't disappear, as they have only gotten worse, starting 2-6, firing coach Steve Nash and getting embroiled in another Irving controversy.

"The concern in Brooklyn is: How long does Kevin Durant hang in there?" ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said. "You can imagine a scenario where KD perhaps revisits his request from the summer at some point, although I don't believe that's a consideration right now for him."

Plenty of NBA teams lined up to acquire Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets this offseason. After weeks of discussions, the Nets and Durant mutually agreed to move forward for the 2022-23 season.

Once Durant returned to the Nets, there were many who believed those talks could spark again if Brooklyn struggled. Given how the Nets have played in the opening weeks of the season, the clock could be ticking on KD's future with the team.

Durant still can be a force. He's been off to a strong start statistically. The 34-year-old superstar is averaging 32.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Durant is also shooting 52.8%, including 34.1% from 3-point range.

Brooklyn has found itself the center of attention in the basketball world lately. In the midst of Kyrie Irving's tweet promoting a link to an antisemitic video, the Nets announced that coach Steve Nash was relieved of duties on Tuesday. Assistant coach Jacque Vaughn has taken over in the meantime.

The team is reportedly close to hiring suspended Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka. Time will tell if things will start to calm down for the Brooklyn Nets. If they don't, then Kevin Durant could very well entertain the idea of revisiting his trade request. Brooklyn is set to take on the Washington Wizards on Friday night in the first game of a three-game road trip.
