Every NBA team has their own statement edition jerseys. The league has five categories of jerseys. They are: association (home), icon (away), classic (throwback), city edition (by Nike) and statement edition (by Jordan).

These jerseys give the franchise a chance to get creative and pay homage to players and various historical events. For fans, it’s more about the excitement of new threads and the anticipation of a new NBA season.

Let’s take a look at some of the top NBA statement edition jerseys for the 2022-23 season:

#5 – The LA Clippers’ collaboration with tattoo artist Mister Cartoon

The LA Clippers first associated with Mister Cartoon during the 2019-20 season. The collaboration resulted in the team’s black 'city edition' jerseys. They’ve now doubled down, using the same Los Angeles wordmark designed by the tattoo artist in a redesigned 'statement edition' jersey.

The uniform pays tribute to their maritime history. Additionally, "Clipper Nation" is spelled out in maritime signal flags on the jock tag. The players will debut the 'statement edition' jersey against the LA Lakers on November 9. Overall, they are scheduled to sport these threads for 10 home games throughout the season.

#4 – Vintage LA Lakers

The LA Lakers did not stray away from the purple-and-gold theme for their latest 'statement edition' jerseys. The uniforms will also feature the phrase "Leave A Legacy," which represents their main goal as a franchise.

The jersey also has the number ‘17’ printed in the neck area. It symbolizes the number of NBA championships the franchise has won.

#3 – The Brooklyn Nets black-on-black design

The Brooklyn Nets' new 'statement edition' jersey features a black-on-black design that pays homage to the city of New York. It's a slightly modified version of the uniform they used when they first relocated from New Jersey to Brooklyn.

The bold design will celebrate the franchise’s ten-year anniversary in Brooklyn. The Nets are scheduled to wear the 'statement edition' jerseys for all of their Friday night home games. They will wear them a total of seven times this season, exclusively at the Barclays Center.

#2 – Charlotte Hornets ‘Stinger’

The Charlotte Hornets are, for the first time, getting a 'statement edition' court to match their 'statement edition' jerseys. The new uniform will exhibit a purple base and feature a "Hornets" wordmark on the chest. Their secondary logo will be shown on the shorts with a cell pattern that emulates a hornet’s stinger.

The new uniform will also have a No. 6 patch on the right shoulder, in memory of NBA and Celtics legend Bill Russell. The Hornets will wear their new 'statement edition' uniforms during their eight Saturday home games this season.

#1 – The Portland Trail Blazers have a new art director

Aside from being an NBA star, Damian Lillard is also an accomplished rapper. However, that hasn’t limited his creativity. Lillard assumed the role of art director for the Trail Blazers this season. He helped design the franchise's latest 'statement edition' jerseys.

“From the jump, I told the designers I wanted it to feature our pinwheel logo. … not only did I think it would look good, but it represents something that I’m all about, something that the Blazers are all about – teamwork and unity,” Lillard said.

The Portland Trail Blazers placed their iconic pinwheel logo right in the middle of the jersey. The pinwheel is symbolic to the franchise, representing teamwork. The bold red color adds to the look of the jersey.
