The 2024-25 NBA season is set to kick off on Oct. 22, with training camps beginning in less than two weeks. While rosters may shuffle during camp, many stars have solidified their roles, leaving only fringe spots to be fought over.

Nevertheless, it’s never too early to rank players by position. Below are the top five shooting guards heading into the 2024-25 NBA season.

With Team USA facing several options to replace Kawhi Leonard, it selected Derrick White, highlighting how dependable he's as a complementary player.

While White may not be the flashiest athlete, his two-way abilities and how he complements his teammates on the Celtics make him one of the top shooting guards in the league.

Last season, White averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists, along with 1.0 steals and 1.2 blocks. He also finished eighth in Kia Defensive Player of the Year voting and earned his second straight All-Defensive Second Team honor.

This offseason, White secured a four-year, $125 million contract extension with the Celtics.

#4 Kyrie Irving (Dallas Mavericks)

Kyrie Irving proved he still has plenty left in the tank by helping lead the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals alongside Luka Doncic.

In the regular season, Irving posted 25.6 points, 5.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, he continued to deliver with 22.1 points — his fourth-highest postseason average — alongside 5.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds.

#3 Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers)

Despite persistent rumors that Donovan Mitchell has always aimed to play for the New York Knicks, he signed a three-year extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, keeping him with the team until the 2027-28 season.

Mitchell has been a key contributor for the Cavaliers, averaging 27.5 points, 5.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds over 123 games. Even though injuries limited him to 55 regular-season games last year, the second-lowest of his career, he still made the All-Star team, averaging 26.6 points, 6.1 assists and 5.1 rebounds.

#2 Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns)

Although the Phoenix Suns were eliminated embarrassingly by the Minnesota Timberwolves in last year’s playoffs, Devin Booker wasn’t to blame. He averaged 27.5 points, 6.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds in the first round.

Booker reminded everyone of his versatility by helping Team USA win gold in Paris 2024, thriving as an off-ball threat despite limited touches. With the Suns looking to redeem themselves this season, it will be intriguing to see how Booker gels with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal in the Suns’ "big three."

#1 Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves)

Anthony Edwards has ascended from star to superstar, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to the NBA Western Conference finals last season.

He averaged 25.9 points, 5.1 assists and 5.4 rebounds during the regular season and elevated his performance in the playoffs, posting 27.6 points, 6.5 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Entering his fourth NBA season, Edwards has positioned himself as one of, if not the best, shooting guards in the league.
