USA womens defeat Spain to retain the title

Defending champions USA defeated Spain 77-64 in the final to retain the title of the FIBA World Basketball Championship for Women played at Fenerbahce Arena in Istanbul, Turkey.

USA got off the flying start by taking the first quarter 28-17 and went on to win the second quarter 20-12 to go to the half time break with comfortable 19 points lead. After the break, Spain tried to come back in the match and the third quarter was a tie with both teams scoring 19 points each. Spain continued to press USA and managed to take the last quarter 16-10 but it was too late for the Spaniards to comeback in the game as USA had the comfortable lead and managed to hold on to win the championship by 77-64.

Maya Moore (USA) was named MVP of the championship for her impressive all-around performance.

2014 FIBA Basketball Championship for women was held in Turkey from 27 September – to 5 October 2014 with participation of 16 countries.
