Tyrese Haliburton is having a strong season in his first full year as a member of the Indiana Pacers. The third-year guard is currently averaging 20.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, a league-leading 10.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game while shooting 48.0% from the field, 40.2% from 3-point range, and 88.5% from the free-throw line.
New York Knicks commentator Wally Szczerbiak recently doubled down on his previous claim that Haliburton won't be an All-Star. Speaking on the pre-game show for tonight's meeting between the Pacers and Knicks, Szczerbiak, who was an All-Star once in his 10-year career, stated:
"I'll tell you Tyrese Haliburton, I had some choice words to say about him maybe not being an All-Star, and boy has he proved me wrong and had me eating crow for the last month. He has been absolutely outstanding the way he's been playing."

Szczerbiak highlighted that Haliburton and the Pacers have been playing great before adding:

"He might not be an All-Star this year. It's gonna be tough between [Jalen] Brunson, [Julius] Randle and Haliburton, but in the future, he's gonna be an All-Star for sure, I think, and I have a lot of respect for his game, also. The guy can flat out ball."
While there was plenty of outrage about Szczerbiak's initial comments regarding Haliburton's All-Star candidacy, the young guard's fan votes suggest that he will need help from NBA coaches to become an All-Star. Haliburton came in just eighth among Eastern Conference guards in the first return of fan votes.

Tyrese Haliburton called a fake All-Star by Wally Szczerbiak
Wally Szczerbiak previously received criticism after he labeled Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton a fake All-Star. Speaking on the New York Knicks postgame show, Szczerbiak stated:
"Mr. Supposed, wannabe, fake All-Star with the big miss there... Last chance, down 3 for the wannabe All-Star. He's in his 2nd year, he's a very good player. He's not gonna make the All-Star team. A guy like Julius Randle or Jalen Brunson will make it over Tyrese Haliburton and tonight we saw why."
Haliburton responded on Taylor Rooks' podcast, stating:
"I know the name Wally Szczerbiak. I couldn't tell you where he played. I couldn't tell you what he did as a basketball player. He had a lot to say about me. I was, like, first, who is this? And why is he talking about me like this?"
Haliburton will need support from the NBA coaches if he hopes to be an All-Star as he is unlikely to be named a starter based on the first return of voting.
