The Washington Wizards lost 127-120 to the Orlando Magic in their second meeting of the season. Before this loss, Scott Brooks' side had a 1-4 record during their West Coast trip and are now 6-13 for the season.
After a promising start in the season, the Wizards are losing several games now due to injuries. The Wizards tried to make a comeback during the 3rd and 4th quarters against Orlando, but it wasn't enough for the Nikola Vucevic-less team. Guard Markelle Fultz had a career-high 20 points, beating his previous career-high of 16 which was against the Wizards in Orlando. With that being said, here is an analysis of the game.
Beal goes off
When in doubt, trust the All-Star shooting guard to put up big numbers. Tonight, Bradley Beal put on a show in Washington, as he scored 42 points making it his 16th career game scoring 40 or more points. Beal played 42 minutes (coincidentally) and went 16-30 from the field, 7-10 from the free-throw line, and 3-6 from downtown, with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Considering the number of injuries to the team, Beal played a high number of minutes to compensate for the loss of those players. Either way, nothing is stopping the star player and he should put up plenty more 40+ point games this season.
Davis Bertans gets his first start as a Wizard
You heard it right. Due to the injuries on the team, forward Davis Bertans got his first start with the Wizards on Tuesday night. Head coach Scott Brooks stated that he would play shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. He played 40 minutes in tonight's loss, scoring 21 points with 5 rebounds. He went 7-16 from the field, 3-3 from the free-throw line, and 4-12 from beyond the arc. He wasn't as efficient as he sometimes can be, it was plenty to help the team try to get a win. Bertans could see a few more starts, but it was good to see him on the floor with the first team.
Isaiah Thomas scores 20 points
Just a few days ago, we discussed how point guard Isaiah Thomas should get benched due to his underwhelming performances. Today, he showed why he shouldn't be. Thomas scored 20 points and went 8-14 from the field, 2-2 from the free-throw line, and 2-5 from downtown, with 5 rebounds and 7 assists. He needs to continue to perform like this. Do not be surprised if guard Ish Smith is placed as the starter if he doesn't. Fans will be hoping that Thomas revives his career here in Washington, considering the state of the point guard position.
