An old video of WNBA star Brittney Griner kissing NBA player Kevin Durant during a live stream has recently gone viral on social media.

The video, which appears to be from their time with Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games, has been met with mostly positive reactions from fans who have described it as "wholesome" and "fun content."

Griner recently returned to the United States after being incarcerated in Russia, which sparked support from NBA athletes and a prisoner swap that included the release of an arms dealer. Despite the controversy surrounding Griner's return, her family and friends are happy to have her back. Some have called for a shift toward more positive media coverage of her.

The following article looks back at the wholesome moment between the two basketball stars, along with Brittney Griner's recent struggles.

Throwback to when Brittney Griner kissed Kevin Durant as a prank

The video is from the time the two spent together during the 2020 Olympic Games as part of Team USA. After Griner's kiss, Durant replied:

"You're lucky I love you, girl."

Brittney Griner's incarceration happened due to the possession of two vape pens which led to her being transported to the Mordovia penal colony on Nov. 17 last year. After spending almost a year in prison, Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, WNBA champion and LGBT trailblazer, was finally released.

Charles Barkley described Griner's return as "bittersweet," expressing happiness for Griner and her family but also concern for the US Army man who remains in a Russian prison. Griner has been reunited with her wife, Cherelle, after spending several months incarcerated in Russia.

Griner was imprisoned in the country after being accused of espionage, leading to widespread support from NBA athletes.

While it is legal to carry and use vape pens in the USA, various countries have specific laws leading to criminal incarceration, such as Russia. Cherelle Griner traveled to Russia to be with her wife during her incarceration and was overjoyed to finally be reunited with her upon her release.

During her captivity, Griner ended up missing the Women’s World Cup which happened in Australia. Team USA won the gold medal and several of her colleagues paid tribute to their incarcerated team member.
