The 2023 NBA All-Star Game will be held in Utah.

The highly-anticipated NBA All-Star Weekend takes place every February in the middle of the NBA regular season.

The weekend comprises a variety of basketball-related events, exhibitions, and performances, culminating in the NBA All-Star Game, which is held on Sunday night. The first-ever All-Star Game took place at the Boston Garden on March 2, 1951. The 2023 All-Star game will be the 71st, and will be held at the Utah Jazz's Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City on February 19, 2023.

The event will start with the All-Star celebrity game and competitions such as the slam dunk, with the 3-point contest set to be held on day two. The following article looks at all of the notable events that were previously a part of the All-Star weekend, but has since been scrapped.

NBA All-Star Weekend 2023: What events have previously been scrapped?

A number of events have been part of the NBA All-Star weekend on a temporary basis, while others have simply been scrapped. One event that makes the former list is the Clorox Clutch Challenge that was held last season to commemorate the NBA’s 75th season.

The challenge involved teams of two trying to recreate some of the most historic shots ever seen in the NBA. The competition was a one-time event and was won by Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers and Desmond Bane of the Memphis Grizzlies.

The H-O-R-S-E Competition was held from 2009 to 2010, and again in 2020, with the latter being a virtual event due to the suspension of the NBA season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the virtual event, NBA and WNBA players participated from their homes, raising $200,000 for charity. The competition involves players from one team taking shots from unique locations and positions on the court. The other team try to replicate the shots. Mike Conley Jr. of the Utah Jazz won the competition, defeating Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls.

The Shooting Stars Competition was held from 2004 to 2015, while the Legends Classic, which featured retired NBA players, was held from 1984 to 1993. The NBA canceled the Legends Classic after 1994 due to frequent injuries among the older players. This was when the Rising Stars Challenge replaced the Legends Classic.

Further canceled events include the 2Ball Contest, which was held in 1998 and from 2000 to 2001. The Hoop-it-Up All-Star Tournament took place from 2002 to 2003. The NBA also held several events to promote education, including the Read to Achieve program, which ran from 2002 to 2004, and the Stay in School Celebration, which was held from 1994 to 1995.

The NBA All-Star Stay in School Jam was held from 1991 to 1993, while the Old-Timers Game was held in 1957 and 1964. Finally, the FIT Youth Celebration is an ongoing event that promotes physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. The event can be expected to be canceled in the coming future once it has been deemed to have served its purpose.
