Jamaree Bouyea has been a standout performer for the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA G League. The youngster went undrafted in 2022, after playing with the Heat in the Summer League and in the preseason. The point guard has now signed a 10-day contract with the Heat.

Bouyea’s basketball journey began at Palma School in Salinas, California. In his senior season, he made a name for himself with a series of impressive performances. Bouyea became the first player in 18 seasons to be awarded The Monterey Herald All-County Player of the Year for two consecutive years.

Despite being lightly recruited, Bouyea received an offer from San Francisco, the only NCAA Division I program that offered him a scholarship, as he had contemplated attending prep school for a fifth year.

Bouyea’s college career

During his freshman year at San Francisco, Bouyea's average was 2.5 points per game, with a shooting percentage of 32.7%. As a sophomore, he averagedi 6.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Bouyea earned a regular starting position in his junior year, averaging 12.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg and 3.5 assists per game, earning All-West Coast Conference honorable mention.

During his senior year, Bouyea averaged 17.3 ppg, 3.7 apg and 3.7 rpg, landing first-team All-WCC honors.

Despite this achievement, Bouyea decided to return to college for a fifth season and was once again named to first-team All-WCC, marking another significant accomplishment.

Performance for Skyforce this season

This season with the Skyforce, the 23-year-old Bouyea has averaged 17.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 5.9 apg and 1.8 spg across 32 games. He achieved double-figure scoring in 27 games, with his highest-scoring game reaching 34 points against the Stockton Kings on Jan. 9.

Bouyea has led the Skyforce in assists, steals, blocks and field goals. Additionally, he stands second in points, rebounds and free throws made.

The Heat's decision to sign Bouyea is due to their current shortage of players caused by injuries, including Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson and Victor Oladipo. As Bouyea is already familiar with the team, he is expected to offer additional depth in the backcourt and be able to contribute immediately as a result.
