Netflix's Starting 5 docuseries has NBA fans eagerly awaiting for its release on Oct. 9. The series will give fans a behind the scenes look at the lives of five NBA stars through the 2023-24 NBA season.
The five stars are: LA Lakers forward LeBron James, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, NBA veteran and Miami Heat frontman Jimmy Butler and Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis.
After previously announcing that the 10-part docuseries would be releasing before the start of the 2024-25 season, Netflix unveiled the trailer for the highly-anticipated series this week, giving fans a preview of all that's to come.
In the case of LeBron James, the series follows him and the LA Lakers as they looked to bounce back from a Conference Finals loss to the Denver Nuggets during the 2022-23 season.

While the team came up short of an NBA championship, Starting 5 will give fans a look at LA's inaugural NBA Cup win.
The series will also share Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics journey alongside co-star Jaylen Brown, who silenced their doubters by bringing the 18th championship to Beantown.
Looking further at the stars of Starting 5 and their 2023-24 NBA seasons
In addiiton to James and Tatum, Starting 5 will follow young star Anthony Edwards' 2023-24 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. After back-to-back first-round exits in the playoffs in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, Edwards and the Timberwolves made waves last season.
In addition to Edwards earning his second All-Star selection and cementing his place as a true star in the NBA, the young star led the team to a Western Conference finals berth.
The same can't be said for Starting 5 star Domantas Sabonis and the Sacramento Kings, though. After ending their playoff drought during the 2022-23 season, the 2023-24 season saw the team struggle to find its rhythm.
The team finished ninth in the West, before coming up short in the NBA Play-In tournament. Despite that, Sabonis had a strong year, earning his third All-Star selection.
Last, but certainly not least, Starting 5 will showcase Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat's journey as the team looked to replicate the success of the 2022-23 season, which saw them make a run to the NBA Finals after fighting their way into the postseason via the play-in tournament.
Unfortunately for Butler, after playing 60 games in the regular season, where he averaged a career-high 41.4% from downtown, he suffered an injury in the 2024 play-in tournament, putting a damper on the team's championship aspirations.
