The United States Military Academy has also sent its own football team in the NCAA Division I collegiate football. The team is presently called the Army Black Knights and was previously known as the Army Cadets. This is one of the collegiate football teams which used to play as part of an independent conference so far. However, they were members of Conference USA (CUSA) from 1998-2004. Their home stadium is Michie Stadium in West Point, New York, United States.

The Army Black Knights have made significant progress with National championships in their career so far. They are also notable for having a strong rivalry with the Navy Midshipmen and the Air Force Falcons teams of the United States Army. The team currently holds an overall record of 713-538-51, which shows that they have a good winning history. Under the coaching of Jeff Monken, the team will aim to achieve its fourth national championship soon.

How many National Championships have the Army Black Knights won?

The Army Black Knights, so far, have three National championships in their credit - 1914, 1944 and 1945.

In 1914, then known as the Army Cadets and under the coaching of Charles Daly, they scored a perfect record of 9-0 through the course of the season, which also included defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 20-7.

Then in the Army-Navy game on November 28, 1914, the team defeated the Navy Midshipmen 20-0. Resultantly, the Helms Athletic Foundation and the National Championship Foundation (NCF), declared the Army Cadets as the National Champions.

In 1944, the Army Cadets, under Red Blaik as the coach, again presented a 9-0 record in the season. They faced their rivals the Navy Midshipmen again during the Army-Navy Game on December 2, 1944, defeating their opponents 23-7. Consequently the Associated Press Poll (AP Poll) declared the team as the National Champions.

The Army Cadets continued their success in the 1945 season. Once again under coach Red Blaik, they made a 9-0-1 record. They eventually faced their rivals the Navy Midshipmen again during the Army-Navy Game on December 1, 1945 and defeated them 32-13. Multiple selectors including Helms Athletic Foundation declared the team to be the National Champions.
