In the 2023 season, he began with a strong performance against Bowling Green, making two touchdowns and rushing for over 80 yards. His most impressive outing came against Buffalo where he threw for five touchdowns and amassed over 400 total yards. This performance earned him recognition as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. Salter's ability to perform under pressure was further highlighted during the Conference USA Championship game against New Mexico State, where he threw for over 300 yards and secured his team's first conference title.
