Mario Cristobal is the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes Football Team. He hails from Miami Florida and began his collegiate career as an offensive tackler for the University of Miami in 1989. Mario was a member of the Hurricanes team which won two national championships. In 1992, he began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater, Miami. He went on to Florida International University, becoming the first Cuban-American head coach in Division I football. During his tenure at FIU, he led the Golden Panthers to its first-ever Sun Belt Conference title and also won the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. Cristobal’s career at Oregon was a huge success, his team won the Pac-12 Championship, and the Rose Bowl and he even won the prestigious Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2019.

Mario Cristobal's first season for the Miami Hurricanes as the head coach was in 2022. Cristobal aimed to re-energize the program by utilizing local boyhood players. Although the 2022 season did not fulfill the high expectations of the fans, Cristobal's ambition towards the program was evident. Under his leadership, the Hurricanes improved the team culture, was better structured, more disciplined, and aimed at long-term success. The team, under Cristobal's leadership, finished the season with a record of 5-7, depicting his potential but requiring further adjustments and development. Though the season was tough, Cristobal’s team showed immense promise.
