Xavier Nwankpa is a collegiate defensive back for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He began his high school football career at Southeast Polk High School where he was rated a five-star safety in the class of 2022. Nwankpa led the Rams to a state championship as a senior. He also bagged the MaxPreps Iowa Player of the Year and every Elite All-State honours in his final season of varsity football.

Xavier Nwankpa began his collegiate football journey with Iowa Hawkeyes in 2022 over notable offers from major programs in the country. The Altoona native received offers from Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas and USC. Nwankpa had a breakthrough in his freshman year with his performance in the Music City Bowl against Kentucky Wildcats. He posted his eight career-best tackles in that game. In 2024, Nwankpa as a junior played in all 12 games in safety and recorded 37 career tackles.
