Asia Cup is the premier cricket tournament organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) once every two or four years. The first edition of the Asia Cup happened in 1984. In that tournament, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka played one match against each other and there was no final match. The recent Asia Cup 2023 is going to be hosted by Sri Lanka and Six teams including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will take part in it.

Since then, the number of teams and the level of competition have grown significantly in the Asia Cup. The host countries have been all over Asia. Bangladesh has hosted the event five times, while Pakistan has only hosted it once. Sri Lanka will co-host the 2023 Asia Cup with other five teams involved.

Asia Cup 2023 Host - Sri Lanka

The 16th edition of the Asia Cup, which will feature One Day Internationals (ODI) matches, is being co-hosted by Sri Lanka and is also known as the Super 11 Asia Cup due to sponsorship reasons. Six teams are competing in the event, and It will take place from August 30 to September 17, 2023. The current champions are Sri Lanka. All Asia Cup 2023 matches will be taking place in Sri Lanka.

The Asian Cricket Council's five full members, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, are all competing in the tournament. Nepal, which qualified by winning the ACC Men's Premier Cup in 2023, has now joined them. The event will be staged for the first time in a "hybrid format," with the matches being planned in two nations.

Except for India, which declined to go to Pakistan because of opposition from the Indian government, all teams will play at least a few games there. The dates and format of the event were confirmed when the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) released the pathway structure and calendar for 2023 and 2024 in January 2023. The COVID-19 epidemic caused the event to be postponed from its original 2021 date to 2023. On July 19, 2023, the tournament's schedule was released.
