Funniest IPL moments ever

“Why so serious? Let’s put a smile on that face!”

We all know whose iconic dialogue that was. As The Joker weaved chaos across Gotham, he had but only one intention: to make people see through the veneer of tragedy and laugh at the comedy that lies within it.

Life is a tragic comedy, hence, it is better to laugh at the comedy than cry at the tragedy. At least that’s what they say.

IPL, like everything else in life, has its ups and downs. However, in this article, we will focus on the laughs. The IPL has provided us with a lot of unforgettable moments, some of which left us rolling with laughter.

And here are 5 such moments…

Adam Gilchrist’s wicket celebration

We all fondly remember Adam Gilchrist for his incredible work behind the stumps as well as destructive hitting power with the bat.

However, the world saw him bowl once in T20s when he finished his IPL career with the ball in his hand. Mumbai Indians needed 58 runs in the last over with just 2 wickets remaining. The game was over for them.

Since it was his last game, Adam Gilchrist gave his ‘keeping gloves to Praveen Kumar and took the ball in his hand to commemorate his final outing in the IPL.

Harbhajan Singh was the batsman that was facing him. Gilly then playfully threw an overpitched delivery that was asking to be hit—and Bhajji obliged, only to mistime and hit it straight down the throat of long on.

After that came the epic celebration. The usually restrained Australian did the Bhajji-styled Gangnam dance to bring a laugh on everybody’s faces.

Kieron Pollard’s mouth-tape stunt

This gesture made everyone laugh—including the commentators, who went berserk as it happened

West Indians are known for their playful nature. There is not a single West Indian who doesn’t like to have fun and Kieron Pollard is no exception to that.

When he was having a friendly banter against compatriot Chris Gayle, he was reprimanded by the umpire to tone down his antics. Then Pollard, in an unbelievable act of hilarity, swiftly went towards the dugout and got himself a tape that he stuck to his mouth.

This gesture made everyone laugh—including the commentators, who went berserk as it happened.

Chris Gayle chasing Yuvi with bat raised

This childishness brought a lot of laughs out from many due to the innocence it oozed

As the rain was pouring down heavily, the players of Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore were running back to the pavilion in an attempt to save themselves from getting wet.

While doing so, Yuvraj Singh—then playing for the Daredevils—bumped into his former RCB team-mate Chris Gayle in a very friendly manner. The West Indian, then, in an act inspired out of pure love for his friend, raised his bat and chased him in a way that implied that the West Indian would hit him.

This childishness brought a lot of laughs out from many due to the innocence it oozed.

Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle started doing the bhangra dance before being joined by Virat Kohli

And the hat trick of funny moments featuring West Indians has now been completed. As Royal Challengers Bangalore won their first home game of the IPL 2015 season, the celebrated it in a grand style in the dressing room.

Getting the better of Kolkata Knight Riders, Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle started doing the bhangra dance before being joined by Virat Kohli. Chris Gayle might be a good dancer, but he still has a thing or two to learn about Punjabi moves.

Amit Mishra’s run out

amit mishra run out
Mishra was completely unaware of the fact that he is yet to reach the crease

This is perhaps the funniest run out of all time. It was as if no-one wanted to do their jobs. As James Faulkner bowled to Amit Mishra, the leg-spinner couldn’t connect and the ball went to the wicketkeeper, Sanju Samson.

Amit Mishra, then, started running to gain a bye run, but his partner didn’t respond. Samson threw the ball at the stumps and missed. Mishra was saved. However, James Faulkner was backing up and got hold of the ball and threw it at the stumps again. Mishra was short again. Faulkner, like Sanju, missed.

By now, the commentators were already hysterical, but they totally lost it when Sanju Samson threw the ball at the stumps again and hit—while Amit Mishra was looking at his batting partner and unaware of the fact that he is yet to reach the crease.
